Dhe cars are gone, the bikes are here. Frankfurt has already completed the traffic turnaround, at least on the exhibition grounds. After the departure of the IAA, the Eurobike, the most important bicycle fair in the world, moved to the Main. Last week, an industry presented itself there that was bursting with self-confidence, optimistically defied adverse circumstances of all kinds and turned towards progress.
The bicycle, especially the e-bike that dominates in Frankfurt, is becoming more digital and networked, it transmits and locates, can be fine-tuned using a smartphone app, communicates with the helmet, whose additional brake light integrated on the back lights up synchronously with that of the bicycle. Lighting systems will soon be projecting signals onto the road, sensor-controlled headlights compensate for the lean angle in the curve and prevent the light from folding away when turning. Brake systems are increasingly being upgraded with ABS, cables are disappearing into the background, switching is done wirelessly and suspension is electronic. Last but not least, manufacturers of accessories and clothing supply clever things that make handling the vehicle easier. Here is a small selection of eye-catching innovations.
A good 1,500 exhibitors from 57 countries were represented in Frankfurt, some of them with magnificent stands worthy of the IAA. The exhibition, which used to be based in Friedrichshafen, has never been as big as it will be in 2022. And wheels have never been so expensive. The Eurobike is also a Teurobike.
