Kochi: Kerala’s dream of having its own sports university is coming true….The 18-acre campus is in Menamkulam, Thiruvananthapuram. 55 crores have been earmarked for the first phase. Construction will begin soon. The project is a part of ‘Vision 2032’ implemented by the state government to mold new sports talents. Presently there are sports universities in the states of Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Assam and Gujarat.
The first phase will be called Kerala Institute of Sports. Later it will be converted into a university. The university will act as the state’s main training center for selected sports.
The matter of Sports Sarvakalasha is in the draft proposals submitted by the Sports Department to the government the other day.
Australian model
The university will be established in collaboration with Victoria University of Australia. Teachers and experts will be brought to Kerala from there. Students may have the opportunity to study further at Victoria University.

The sports university is going ahead with initial activities. Construction will be completed as soon as possible.
