Spain: three people, including a Frenchman, died gored in bull releases

by time news

Two of the three victims, aged 50 and 56, died after being violently hit by bulls on Tuesday in the suburbs of Valencia, where bull releases are organized each year as part of festivities called “Bous al carrer”. The third, a French tourist in his sixties, was hospitalized in serious condition on July 8 after being gored in a village near Alicante. He died on Monday, according to a spokesman for the emergency services.

The release of bulls, a tradition in Spain especially during the summer, when many villages celebrate their patron saint, regularly claim victims in the country, despite the implementation of protocols intended to avoid this type of accident.

The most famous bull runs take place every year as part of San Fermin in Pamplona (north), where hundreds of runners try to get as close as possible to six fighting bulls during an 850-meter race in the cobbled streets of the city.

This year, a total of five people were gored during the festivities, which ended on July 14, but none were seriously injured.
