London: Roads in the U.K. also collapsed as the temperature reached a record. Roads in Manchester’s Stockport town were damaged. The potholes started forming when the chemicals used for road construction started turning into liquid form in extreme heat.
Asphalt is a chemical used in UK road construction. These are highly absorbent of temperature and will liquefy if the heat is too high. However, experts are of the opinion that this happens only when the temperature exceeds 50 degrees.
Meanwhile, UK temperatures are forecast to rise above average for July and August. If this happens, more roads may collapse. In many parts of England, railway lines and schools were closed due to the extreme heat. It is estimated that the temperature in the UK is rising dramatically due to climate change.
