Eric Ciotti wants to force rebellious deputies to wear ties in the hemicycle

by time news

The rebellious deputies are definitely the subject of many debates in the Assembly. The deputy LR and quaestor Éric Ciotti asked this Thursday in a letter to the presidency of the Assembly, of which AFP had a copy, “the obligation to wear a tie” in the hemicycle. He thus wishes “to prevent certain deputies, in particular from France Insoumise, from allowing themselves to wear more and more relaxed outfits within the hemicycle”.

“This question is far from trivial”, he wants to believe, seeing it as a “mark of respect due to our institutions and our compatriots”. To date, article 9 of the General Instruction of the Office provides only that the dress of the deputies must “resemble a town dress”.

“I bet that if I came to the Assembly in tie, he would ask that it be withdrawn”, reacted on Twitter the rebellious deputy Clémentine Autain.

This is not the first time that the subject of the tie in the Assembly has been debated. In 2017, the spokesperson for the LREM deputies Aurore Bergé had already described her rebellious colleagues as “scruffy” because they did not wear them. In general, the outfit of deputies is regularly subject to controversy, as evidenced by the fiery reactions to the yellow vest of presidential candidate Jean Lassalle or the flowered dress of ex-minister Cécile Duflot.

The deputies of the Nupes alliance who made a strong entry into the hemicycle during the legislative elections, are making a lot of talk about them while the Assembly has been examining the bill for purchasing power since Monday.

The president (ex-LR) of the Paca region Renaud Muselier denounced on BFMTV “a problem of behavior” of the elected representatives of Nupes during the debates in the National Assembly, adding that it was about “the dirty left, scruffy, screaming everywhere”.

“You represent the Republic, you have an office, you are not in a playground. (…) You come out of the sandbox and you are among the big ones, ”added the elected official, who supported Emmanuel Macron in the presidential election.

“Fed up with this contempt”

The response to Renaud Muselier was quick. “In French, it’s not called shout everywhere most make proposals to improve the lives of French people, replied LFI MP Manuel Bompard on Twitter. “But staying true to his convictions is difficult to understand for someone who turned his jacket around to get elected with the macronists,” added the right arm of the rebellious leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

“Fed up with this contempt and this condescension of elected officials who owe their election to the voices of the left”, also retorted on Twitter Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS, recalling that Renaud “Muselier only won because we withdrew in the second round to avoid a triangular which would have carried the RN to the presidency of (the region) Paca ”.

“We weren’t dirty when we called to block the far right by getting a vote for Mr. Muselier”, also remarked the deputy Générations Benjamin Lucas, on Europe 1. “Yes of course we are shouting in the hemicycle, but (…) the history of the Republic is made up of heated debates, it is normal, it is our convictions that we put into play. Me, I was elected because there is anger and that I must take this anger to the National Assembly, ”continued the Green MP.

“I did not elect RN vice-presidents at the head of the National Assembly. That is dirty, that is unworthy and that is very disheveled vis-à-vis the history of our Republic, ”he concluded.
