The trial began on Monday, and today, after a three-hour deliberation, the jury found the 68-year-old Bannon guilty of two counts of misdemeanors for refusing to provide testimony or documents to a House committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack by Trump supporters on the Capitol in Washington. , in an attempt to change the results of the presidential elections held in 2020.

Bannon was wrong that the requested materials were confidential due to Trump being under immunity – a claim that was rejected by a judge.

His sentencing is expected on October 21. His minimum sentence will be 30 days in prison, and the maximum – a year in prison. He is expected to appeal the decision.

The jury’s decision came a day after the hearing in the committee examining the January 6 eventsin which a recording was played of Bannon speaking to a group of people on October 31, 2020, a few days before the US presidential election – he said Trump would claim to have won the election regardless of the actual results.

“What Trump is going to do is declare victory. OK? He’s going to declare victory. But that doesn’t mean he’s the winner. He’s just going to say he won,” Bannon is heard saying on the recording.

Indeed, that’s exactly what the former president did – claimed victory, despite the official results pointing to victory for Joe Biden.

On January 5, the eve of the congressional session to confirm Biden’s victory, Bannon spoke with Trump on the phone for 11 minutes, then went on the radio and said: “Tomorrow hell is going to break loose. It’s going to happen, and it’s going to be extraordinarily different.”
