India votes against the US resolution Dinamalar

New York: Seven countries, including India and China, voted against the draft resolution brought by the United States and the United Nations regarding the recognition of NGOs. Economic and Social Council meeting of 54 member countries of UN took place in New York.

In this meeting, a resolution regarding giving special status to NGOs was tabled. In this case, the United States filed a draft resolution to give special status to six NGOs, including the foundation that runs the ‘Wikipedia’ company. e

The United States has said that it filed this resolution because the UN’s NGO group is dragging its feet without giving recognition to these organizations. In total, 23 countries voted in favor of this resolution which was filed with the support of 36 countries.

At the same time seven countries India, China, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Russia, Zimbabwe and Nicaragua protested. In total, 18 countries abstained from voting. India said it voted against the US draft resolution because it was filed against the rules without seeking approval through the UN NGO Committee, without transparency.
