Colombo: Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe is planning to expand the cabinet to include all party representatives.
In Sri Lanka yesterday, 17 ministers were appointed in the government led by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene. Regarding this, Tourism Minister Harin Fernando said: 17 people have been appointed as ministers in the Sri Lankan cabinet; Up to 30 ministers can be appointed. Ranil Wickremesinghe is planning to form a coalition cabinet with the ministers of the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party and the opposition parties as ministers.
In this regard, a decision will be taken in consultation with other parties. However, it is not possible to say with certainty when the cabinet expansion will take place. This is what he said. Meanwhile, many countries have expressed their displeasure with the attack on those who came to besiege the offices of the President and the Prime Minister the day before yesterday.
Subsequently, President Ranil Wickremesinghe spoke to the leaders of those countries. At that time, he said, as the protestors advanced towards the offices of the Prime Minister and the Chancellor despite the warning of the police, the police resorted to batons to avoid violence and disperse the crowd.
