A passenger from Ireland has reportedly experienced a delay in getting his luggage back. But it was the way he solved the problem on his own that made the news go viral.
The incident took place when Dermot Lennon, an Irishman, returned to Dublin from Brisbane, Australia on June 28. Lennon had to return home without his luggage due to a delay at the baggage claim counter in the Dublin Airport terminal.
But despite waiting patiently for a week, no response was received from the airport authorities. Following this, he reached the counter at the airport to buy luggage on July 4, but to no avail. The airport authorities have not allowed everyone to enter this restricted area. Moreover, the multi-stage security checks here have also delayed the proceedings.
Following this, Lennon decided to take a plane ticket to get his luggage back. With his ticket in hand, Lennon was able to go directly to the baggage section.
‘I checked the website and bought the cheapest ticket. It was an 18-euro ticket to Glasgow, Scotland, Lennon said, Business Insider reported.
Finally, on July 5, he got his luggage back after spending a long time at the airport. But when Lennon arrived at the baggage claim area, he was shocked to see the scene. Lennon said there were thousands of bags strewn about. The young man also stated that some of them are tagged with the dates of last month.
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) issued an official statement with an explanation after the issue broke in the news. DAA said that handling the baggage of various airlines is not under their purview.
Passengers’ respective airlines and their ground handling agents are responsible for handling check-in, bag drop and baggage delivery, a DAA spokesperson said.
