We hear that there is no choice: the vocal cover band for Hasidic songs “Aka Fela” once again took first place in the list of international artists most played on Israeli radio stations last week – even though it was played on only five stations out of about 20 tracked by the research company MediaForest, which provides music content distribution services , monitoring, recording and analytics of broadcasts, producing reports and playback charts, automatic transcription of broadcast media, media research for the music and advertising industries in Israel and around the world.

The reason for this, for those who have forgotten their history lessons at school, is that last Sunday was the 17th Tammuz fast (which is later than Shabbat, on which fasting is prohibited), which opens the Inter-Egyptian period, the three weeks between the breaking of the siege of Jerusalem in AD 70 (or on the dates Hebrew: 3,000,000) for the destruction of the Second Temple on the 9th of Av in the same year. During this period mourning customs are practiced, among them not listening to music with musical instruments. Therefore, during this period religious stations and religious programs on a number of other stations are playing only songs of the bands based on vocal performances. Aka Fela is one of the main bands in the field, so it is played almost non-stop during this period, which brings it to an impressive figure of 186 plays in one week on 5 stations – an average of more than 5 plays on each station every day.

In second place is Dua Lipa; followed by Beyoncé; in fourth place Calvin Harris; And in fifth place, a tie between Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles.

The leading Israeli artists this week were Eyal Golan, Eden Ben Zaken, Sharit Haddad, Omar Adam and Eden Hasson.
