Kuwait City: The criminal court has sentenced an expatriate Indian who smuggled drugs to be hanged in Kuwait. He smuggled drugs with a market value of 11,000 dinars.

The accused was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Division in collaboration with the Customs Department. The parcel containing the drug reached Kuwait by postal route from the European country. The accused had admitted that he had brought more than one kilo of hashish to Kuwait. He had also revealed that these were brought to the country by hiding them in a chocolate box to escape the eyes of customs.

4.23 lakh Indians returned from Gulf during Kovid

Delhi: During the Kovid crisis, 4.23 lakh Indians returned home from the Gulf. These figures are for the period from June 2020 to December 2021. More than half of them are from UAE and Saudi Arabia. Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan made this clear while answering questions from MPs in the Rajya Sabha.

A total of 4,23,559 Indians have returned. Of these, 1,52,126 returned from UAE, 1,18,064 from Saudi Arabia, 51,206 from Kuwait, 46,003 from Oman and 32,361 from Qatar. During the period from June 2020 to December 2021, 1,41,172 Indians went to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE in search of employment, the minister said. The largest number of expatriates returned to Qatar – 51,496. Only 13,567 people returned to the UAE during this period.
