Delhi: Former Indian National Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli expressed his willingness to play in this year’s Asia Cup (Asia Cup 2022) and Twenty20 World Cup (ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022). Kohli’s position in the Indian team, which is in poor form, is a matter of discussion.

“My main goal is to win the title for the Indian team in the Asia Cup and Twenty20 World Cup. Ready for anything’- Kohli clarified his position through a promotional tweet released by Star Sports ahead of the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup will be held in UAE from 27th of next month. Currently away from Team India’s West Indies tour, Kohli is spending the holidays in London with his family. It is not clear whether Kohli will play in India’s next tour of Zimbabwe. The Asia Cup cricket tournament will begin after the series against Zimbabwe. The three ODIs in Zimbabwe are on August 18, 20 and 22.

Thirty-three-year-old Virat Kohli is in the worst form of his career. Kohli hasn’t scored a century since November 2019. India’s run machine has completely faded in the IPL and the tour of England. Former players also raised questions whether this Kohli still has a place in India’s T20 squad. Kohli’s replacement Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav are in brilliant form. Meanwhile, Kohli expressed his willingness to play, including in the Asia Cup. The T20 Cricket World Cup will be held in Australia in the months of October and November.

Asia Cup in UAE

Due to the political situation in Sri Lanka, the Asia Cup cricket tournament was shifted to the UAE. The change of venue came after the Sri Lankan Cricket Board informed the Asian Cricket Council that it could not host the tournament due to political and economic crises in the country. Sri Lanka’s withdrawal from hosting the Asia Cup comes after the third edition of the Lankan Premier League was postponed. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly told news agency ANI that the UAE is the most suitable venue for the Asia Cup as it is the only place without rain during the match period.

India are the current champions in the Asia Cup. India won the title by defeating Bangladesh in the final of the tournament held in Dubai in 2018 in the ODI format. Batting first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 222 runs in 48.3 overs, while India clinched the title with the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs.
