Palakkad: Relatives, teachers and locals are in shock after a venomous snake wrapped around the leg of a Class 4 student at Mankara Government Higher Secondary School. All of them are relieved that the Vellikattan, which is described as the most dangerous of the snakes in our country, was able to escape after being wrapped around their legs. A small amount of poison is enough to cause death. Ashra was saved from such a dangerous snake only by his presence of mind.
Ashraya stepped on the snake while reaching the school around 9:30 in the morning and entering the classroom. Immediately the snake got on his feet. Around the leg. Instead of trying to run, he relied on kicking his feet hard. In the meantime, the snake slipped from his leg and helped. As soon as the snake got on his leg, he escaped without being bitten. Everyone praises this presence of mind. The teachers came running after hearing Ashraya’s cry after throwing the snake off her leg. After telling the people who came running, the wise man also shared the information that the snake had climbed into the cupboard. They rushed and caught the snake and beat it to death.
The child was immediately rushed to Palakkad District Hospital. The examination revealed that Ashra had not been bitten by a snake. There were no bite marks on the body. After this everyone was relieved. It was found that the snake did not bite, but the child is still under observation. The hospital authorities said that 24-hour surveillance will continue.

Locals alleged that the area around the classroom is covered with forest. The education department had given instructions to remove the forest in the premises before the opening of the school. The lapse in this regard brought matters to the brink of a great danger. Locals protested at the school.
