Government: ministers must stay at least until August 6 in Paris

by time news

After a busy year marked by the presidential and legislative election campaigns, the ministers are in a hurry to breathe… But they will still have to wait a few days.

In a circular sent by Matignon and read by Le Parisien, “the Prime Minister asks ministers to participate in parliamentary work until the end of the extraordinary session”. What concretely leads the forty ministers – even those who are ministerial fields not concerned by the texts in progress – to remain in the capital until approximately August 6th.

Departures will therefore be late. This instruction is not trivial. Matignon wants to send a signal to parliamentarians. In a context of relative majority, Elisabeth Borne takes care of the deputies and senators, whose votes are precious. She also asked the members of her government, who met in a seminar last Thursday, to closely associate parliamentarians before the drafting of the legal texts.

The circular signed by the general secretariat of the government, emanating from Matignon, also specifies the calendar of the Councils of Ministers. The last will take place, unless unforeseen, Friday July 29 (after the return of Emmanuel Macron from his trip to Africa) and the first of the start of the school year on August 24. In the meantime, the ministers will be able to leave, but on condition that they leave Matignon the address of their vacation spot, their vacation dates, a telephone number and an accessible email.

“Those who are absent will have to choose a destination compatible with the exercise of their responsibilities”, further warns Matignon. The tacit rule is generally a maximum of two hours by plane from Paris.
