The UAE Ministry of Human Resources requires workers who work in tall buildings or high-rise construction sites to strictly follow safety requirements to avoid accidents. The authorities also suggest that employers should provide appropriate training to workers to avoid risks.

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources came out with a strict directive after continuously finding people working in tall buildings without adequate safety equipment. Adherence to protective measures on worksites and required safety factors for construction and use of scaffolding. During site visits in past years, municipal inspectors reported finding people working at height on unfinished floors or on temporary platforms, scaffolds and cradles used to clean windows in towers under construction without safety equipment.

It shall be the employer’s responsibility to provide the necessary means to protect workers against occupational hazards, injuries and illnesses. Construction sites should have instruction boards with awareness details. Employers must provide appropriate training to workers to avoid hazards and conduct periodic assessments to ensure safety. In a recent workshop organized by Abu Dhabi Municipality, workers were given awareness classes on the dangers of working in high-rise buildings without safety shields.
