The strategic partnership is within the framework of opening Intel factories for production for external users (ISF)

Intel and MediaTek announced a strategic partnership to manufacture chips using advanced Intel Foundry Services (IFS) process technologies. The agreement is designed to help MediaTek build a more balanced and resilient supply chain by adding a new foundry partner with significant capacity in the United States and Europe.

MediaTek plans to use Intel’s process technologies to manufacture multiple chips for a variety of smart end devices. IFS offers a manufacturing platform built on a roadmap that spans production-proven 3D FinFET transistors to next-generation breakthroughs.

“As one of the world’s leading fabless chipmakers powering more than 2 billion devices annually, MediaTek is a great partner for IFS as we enter our next phase of growth,” said IFS President Randhir Thakur. “We have the right combination of advanced process technology and geographically diverse capability to help MediaTek deliver the next billion connected devices in a variety of applications.”

NS Tsai, Corporate Senior Vice President of Platform Technology and Manufacturing Operations at MediaTek, said, “MediaTek has long adopted a multi-sourcing strategy. We have an existing business partnership in 5G data chips with Intel, and we are now expanding our relationship to manufacture smart edge devices through the company’s manufacturing services. Combined with its commitment to significant capacity expansions, IFS provides value to MediaTek as we seek to create a more diverse supply chain. We look forward to building a long-term partnership that will serve the rapidly growing demand for our products from customers around the world.”
