Canada: two dead and two injured in shootings near Vancouver, the suspect killed by the police

The suspect was killed by police in downtown Langley, near Vancouver, after shootings that left two dead and two injured in this region of British Columbia. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced late Monday morning that four people were hit by bullets and that two of them died. RCMP Lower Mainland Deputy District Commander Ghalib Bhayani says the suspect’s motives are not known at this time and it is still unclear whether the suspect knew his victims. And the official to ask the public to provide any information likely to help the investigation.

“There were multiple victims and multiple shootings,” Langley police initially said on Monday, in the center of this city near Vancouver, in western Canada. The police apprehended the suspect, stating “that a man is in custody”. Investigators are also investigating whether other suspects were involved in the shootings.

The police, however, did not specify whether the victims were still alive. According to Canadian media, the man may have deliberately targeted homeless people in the city.

Public alert messages

An alert message had been broadcast, around 6:15 a.m. local time, to the population, mentioning “several crime scenes in downtown Langley”, a city located about forty kilometers southeast of Vancouver, British Columbia .

The authorities indicated in this message to have had an “interaction with a suspect without knowing for the moment if others were involved”. A second alert was sent an hour later explaining that the suspect “was no longer a threat” and again asking the public to stay away.

The initial alert message described a white man, with dark hair, wearing a brown jumpsuit and a blue and green t-shirt with a red logo on the right sleeve.
