The volunteers of the ‘Shomerim’ organization in the Crown Heights neighborhood, caught a man last night after he broke through the gate surrounding the ‘Raim Ahuvim’ synagogue in the neighborhood.
The report was received at the guard hotline after a number of residents reported a suspect walking around the area of the synagogue on Carroll-Skanectady streets without a shirt, which aroused their suspicion.
The guard volunteers who arrived at the scene, noticed the suspect holding a large iron rod in his hand and trying to vandalize and damage the property of the synagogue, they called him to stop, but the suspect responded by threatening the volunteers that he would hurt them with the iron rod.
The volunteers tried to convince him to put down the pole, and waited until the police arrived and arrested the suspect.
