Kiddush Hashem in Lakewood after residents, some of whom are ultra-Orthodox, who play together in the neighborhood, participated to help finance medical treatments for one of the referees of the games. Carlos, the referee who attends games in Lakewood with the Jews as a referee, was recently diagnosed with a (benign) tumor located on top of his spine near the brain and the debts to the doctors began to pile up.

In true unity, the participants, some of them ultra-Orthodox, decided to return the favor to the man, when a game was supposed to start on the Pine Park field, all the players and referees were called together for the announcement by the game organizer Shimon Friedman – a resident of Lakewood.

“You know, Carlos has been a part of our games for the last five years, and he knows, more than anyone else that he’s more than just a referee, it’s family,” Friedman stated.

Shimon continued, “He’s a close friend of ours, and unfortunately he’s going through something right now. So the actors’ family got together and organized something to give him.” At Kiddush Hashem moved, the man continued to hand Carlos a letter, signed by all the players, wishing him a speedy recovery. Inside the letter was $2500. This was reported by Lakewood Alerts. “Carlos, I just want to let you know that we are here for you, if anything you need you are part of our family we love you and appreciate you. Thank you,” Friedman said.
