Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress has expelled Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested in the teacher appointment scam case, from all party posts, apart from the minister post. The decision was taken by the party disciplinary committee meeting.

Earlier, Partha was sacked as minister. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired the cabinet meeting after the sacking. TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that he has been suspended from the party until the investigation continues and if he is found innocent, the party’s doors will be opened for Partha.

The action was taken after the demand to remove Partha Chatterjee from the position of minister and various positions in the party became stronger. Trinamool Congress General Secretary and West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the school teacher recruitment scam case.

The corruption allegations surfaced when Chatterjee was the education minister from 2014-21. Chatterjee’s associate and actress Arpita Mukherjee’s flats were searched and ED worth Rs 50 crore was recovered. Currently both are in ED custody.
