The Koundé soap opera is about to end. The French central defender has chosen his destination. While he had 2 years left on his contract with Sevilla FC, Jules Koundé will join FC Barcelona. The Catalan club announced this Thursday evening an agreement in principle for his arrival. The French international is therefore preparing to officially join the Blaugranas, provided that he validates his medical examination.
Coveted by major Premier League clubs, such as Manchester City or Chelsea, a club for which he almost signed last summer, the defender finally remains in Spain, in a championship he knows well since he has been playing there for 3 seasons.
By signing for Barça, the Paris-born central defender is taking a new step as he will try to win his first league title in Spain. Winner of the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020, Jules Koundé will now have Champions League ambitions.
50 million euros plus 5 million bonuses
The Catalan club will pay 50 million euros for the 23-year-old player trained at the Girondins de Bordeaux, to which will be added a bonus of 5 million euros. The young Blue with 11 selections should have his medical examination this Friday afternoon according to L’Équipe. He will commit for the next 5 years, i.e. until 2027.
