New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, while replying during question time in the Lok Sabha, said that 69 thousand 822 accidents were reported in 2018 and 57 thousand 987 accidents in 2019 due to the accidents caused by vehicles not stopping on the road. In 2020, 52 thousand 448 cases were reported.

The government has come up with a new scheme to provide compensation ranging from Rs 12,500 to Rs 50,000 to those injured in road accidents. 25 thousand to 2 lakh rupees compensation is given for casualties, he said.
