New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has asked Congress leaders to withdraw social media posts against Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani within 24 hours. The court ordered the Congress leaders to delete posts that accused Smriti’s daughter of having a relationship with a restaurant in Goa. The court directed the Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera and Neta D’Souza. The court also asked the Congress leaders to appear in person.

The court’s order is in a civil defamation case filed by Smriti Irani. The petition will be heard on August 18. At this time the Congress leaders should reach the court.

The court has also directed social media companies including Twitter and Facebook to remove the posts if the Congress leaders do not remove them. Justice Mini Pushkarna’s action is based on the fact that prima facie the case filed by Smriti Irani is against Congress leaders. The court prima facie held that defamatory and false allegations were made against Irani without verifying the actual facts.

Congress leaders alleged that Smriti Irani’s daughter has an illegal bar in a restaurant in Goa. After the order, Jairam Ramesh tweeted that they will present the facts before the court.
