New Delhi> CPI-M Politburo member MA Baby said that Marxism is a science that should be applied taking into account the characteristics of the time and the country. He was speaking at an online symposium on ‘Application of Marxism in 21st Century and National Conditions’, presenting the CPI-M’s point of view.
Marxism Leninism is a highly creative science. It is not the last word. He said that it is constantly evolving. A nation’s experiences of social change cannot be replicated exactly like taking a carbon copy of something. Stagnation and regression can occur if not continuously developed. This is what the histories of great revolutionary failures and setbacks illustrate.
The communist experience in India over a century has been varied. The party has followed different lines of struggle for the advancement of labor and peasant movements. Opportunities have been utilized to the maximum effect to bring relief to the exploited. Now, the Communist-led Left Democratic Front government in Kerala is trying to formulate and implement alternative policies along with relief measures. Although this is a matter that is deeply distressed from within due to the general economic problems and the existing system of exploitation in the country, the Communists must try to have the courage to undertake such efforts with popular support. He explained that CPI-M is striving for that.
The discussion ended with greeting messages from leaders such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, Cuban President Diazkenal, Vietnam Communist Party General Secretary N Nguyen Phu Throng, and Russian Communist Party General Secretary Shuganov.
