FC Barcelona sold its first non-fungible token (NFT) on Friday at Sotheby’s auction house in New York for $693,000, including commissions, on the eve of their club friendly match against the New York Red Bulls.

The title of the NFT is ‘In a Way Immortal’ and evokes Cruyff’s iconic goal against Atlético Madrid at the Camp Nou in 1973, when the Dutchman was suspended in mid-air and beat goalkeeper Miguel Reina with an acrobatic move that entered the football history.
The buyer of the piece, whose name has not been disclosed, will receive special treatment from Barcelona, with VIP experiences and recognition as Barça Digital Ambassador, according to the team in a note.
