Colombo:

Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has assumed the office of President amid severe economic crisis in Sri Lanka, is actively working to bring about political and economic stability in the country.

As a part of this, Ranil Wickramasinghe is planning to form a strong government with all the parties. He has not yet expanded the cabinet to facilitate this.

In Sri Lanka, there is an opportunity to appoint up to 30 ministers, but only 18 have been appointed as ministers. Moreover, there are only 2 ministers from parties other than the ruling Sri Lankan People’s Party.

Ranil Wickramasinghe has therefore invited the opposition parties to participate in the government led by him. He has also started negotiations in this regard.

Yesterday, Ranil Wickramasinghe held talks with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party of former President Maithripala Sirisena.

Government sources have said that all the ongoing negotiations will be completed within a week and an all-party government will be formed.

But Sajith Premadasa’s Samagi Jana Palavakeya, the main opposition party, has announced that Ranil Wickremesinghe will not participate in the government. However, it is also said that some MPs of that party have decided to support the government individually.

On the other hand, National Freedom Front leader Vimal Weerawansa MP has decided to support Ranil Wickramasinghe. Although he supported the Dallas beauty in the recent presidential election, he has expressed his desire to join the government.

Law Minister Vijayadasa Rajapakse has said that he has invited the parties to form an all-party government in Sri Lanka and the government will wait only for a short time for this.

He said that through this, the government is trying to restore the sense of trust in democracy and resolve the socio-political crises within Sri Lanka.

In this situation, the former vice-president of the opposition trade union has been arrested for insulting the president’s flag when the protesters occupied the Sri Lankan presidential palace.

He had posted a video of trespassing in the President’s House and using the President’s flag as a bed sheet. Following this action has been taken against him.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka continues to negotiate with the World Bank to help with the economic crisis.

But the World Bank has said that there is no new plan to provide financial support to Sri Lanka at this stage.
