by time news

There was clearly no photo. To start this first and penultimate mountainous stage, Annemiek van Vleuten crushed the race, winning alone at the Markstein ski resort ahead of Demi Vollering (+3′30). With this performance, the Dutchwoman grabs the yellow jersey held by Marianne Vos, before the final stage of the Tour.

Announced favorite of the Grande Boucle, the Movistar runner attacked from the first difficulty of the day, in the Petit Ballon (9.3km at 8.1%) with her compatriot Demi Vollering, 85km from the finish. Then, in the Platzerwasel pass (7.1km at 8.3%), Annemiek van Vleuten made a big acceleration that her opponent of the day failed to follow.

She then raced in the lead for almost 62km and largely outdistanced her competitors, counting 1′45″ ahead of Demi Vollering and 5′20 over Elisa Longo Borghini, one of the favorites of the day before starting The Grand Ballon (13.5km at 6.7%). The Dutchwoman then climbed the last difficulty of the day alone without ever weakening. A masterful performance, which should allow him to win this Tour de France, after winning the Tour of Italy a few weeks ago. For her part, Juliette Labous is now fourth overall.
