Baghdad: Shia leader Muqtada Sadr’s followers once again occupied the parliament in Iraq. The action is a continuation of the previous day when Parliament surrounded the Parliament and disrupted the proceedings as soon as it met to elect the Prime Minister. On Saturday, the protesters reached the Parliament after breaking the walls of the green zone, which is a high-security area. Around 125 people were injured in the violence. Muqtada Sadr’s followers came carrying the picture of the leader and the national flag, demanding a corruption-free administration. Aljazeera reports that the parliament building is under the control of Muqtada Sadr’s followers.

The people are protesting against the arrival of Mohammad Shia Alsudani, a representative of the pro-Iranian alliance. The voting was supposed to take place on Saturday. Sadr’s party is currently the largest party in the parliament. Although the election was completed last October, the Prime Minister has yet to be elected.
