After the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader was killed in Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Tommy, his own party and subordinate organizations are surrounded by sharp questions. The reason is that a puppet state chief minister has now become the talk of the town when he expressed that he would have to use the ‘model’ of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Zakir and Shafiq have been arrested in connection with the murder of BJP leader Praveen Netaru in South Karnataka. But the party in his hometown is angry with the ruling government of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bombay.
Local BJP members accuse the government of failing to protect the chief minister’s own party members.
Earlier, BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru was killed in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, where communal sentiment is high. The next night, the police arrested a few more suspects in Mangalore.
The 21 arrested suspects are members of Popular Front of India (PFI) and STBI. Police are investigating them and no arrests have been made so far.
In response, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Pommy said, “The central government should ban BFI and STBI parties. Some states have banned them. The central government will take a decision on this issue soon.”
Earlier, after Praveen’s death, Chief Minister Basavaraj Boyam canceled several programs organized to mark the one-year anniversary of his government on Thursday.
“We are angry following this killing. I am pained by the fact that this incident happened within months of the killing of Harsha (Bajrang Dal activists) in Shivamogga,” said Dolly.
He also said, “We are following all steps to control the situation in Karnataka. If necessary, we will implement Yogi model rule here as well.”
He said this while referring to anti-national and communal forces trying to create unrest in the state.
Moti then, Yogya today?
Basavaraj Pupami’s comment comes at a time when the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP has won a historic victory in Uttar Pradesh this year.
Since 2014, in every election held in the country, the BJP has seen the electoral field centered around Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In this situation, the ruling BJP alliance parties at the center and in the states sought votes by citing the ‘Gujarat Model’ as to how much development there was in Gujarat during Modi’s regime.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won the Uttar Pradesh elections in 2017 by campaigning mainly on Narendra Modi’s images. Subsequently, Yogi Adityanath was given the post of Chief Minister.
Historic winner ‘Chief Minister‘ Yogi
In this situation, it should be noted here that for the first time in 2022 a party came back to power in Uttar Pradesh after 37 years after ruling for 5 years under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath.
Out of the total 403 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP alone won 255 seats. After this election, the BJP also won the by-elections for Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituencies. At the same time, both constituencies were considered strongholds of the Samajwadi Party.
Political experts believe that Yogi Adityanath’s leadership and the model of governance that Yogi displayed along with Prime Minister Modi is the major reason for this great success.
But looking at the current state of Karnataka, we can say that the rhetoric of Yogi model is now being used to show the severity of the government against criminals or crimes.
But the question here is what exactly is this ‘Yogi Model’?
‘Bulldozer’ Politics started in action
Veteran journalist and political analyst Neeraja Chleutri points out that when one talks about the Chief Minister Yogi Model, it definitely involves ‘bulldozer politics’.
Is the Yogi administration’s stricture on all community members the same? Responding to the question, Neeraja Chelatri recalled her conversation with a BJP leader.
Accordingly Yogi Adityanath’s victory was ‘his anti-Muslim politics’. Law and order has also been tightened in Uttar Pradesh.
Yogi Adityanath, in his first term, bulldozed houses of rioters and criminals. It was heavily criticized.
Akhilesh Yadav even called Yogi ‘Bulldozer baba’ in a rally during the election campaign to taunt him. However, this ‘bulldozer’ later became an important part of the BJP’s campaign.
Voices like ‘UP ki zaaruri hai, bulldozer zaroori hai’ and ‘Baba ka bulldozer’ echoed in the lobby.
During Yogi’s previous regime, bulldozer action also swept through the house of Vikas Dube, accused of killing 8 constables in Kanpur.
Recently, the house of Javed Pump, the alleged mastermind of the violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, was bulldozed after former BJP president Nubur Sharma’s controversial comment on Prophet Muhammad. The action was taken on the grounds that the construction was erected illegally.
According to experts, the bulldozer operation is not only a process of punishing criminals and the accused. Against this background, the ruling BJP is trying to send a strong message across the state and now across the country.
Yogi is identified as an administrator who takes prompt action against crime. Following the Yogi government’s quick-action formula, recently the Shivraj government of Madhya Pradesh and the Himanta Biswa Sharma government of Assam unleashed a ‘bulldozer’ operation on places where the accused were involved.
Describing how the Yogi government is now back in our midst, Neeraja said, “The government demolishes a house built on one’s livelihood without any prior notice. This is very new in our country. Nowadays, don’t worry about whether action is taken following complete legal procedures or not. In short, the Yogi model is due process of law. “Strict action will be taken against those accused of non-compliance,” he said.
Why Yogi to BJP states precedent?
Is the Yogi government’s model to ignore legal procedures and set an example for other BJP states? He also says that states like Karnataka are better than Uttar Pradesh in many basic aspects like education and health.
Sunita Aaron, a veteran journalist who has been closely following UP politics for decades, said, “The Yogi model has shown that there is no compromise on violence, whether it is the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act or the violence after the Friday prayers. “Not only the first information reports against them, their photographs are also made public, especially those who have damaged government property. This has a huge impact on social sentiment,” he says.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi says Yogi model is the best law and order maintenance.
“During the previous governments of UP, criminal gangs ran a network parallel to power. This led to law and order problems in Uttar Pradesh. In the last 5 years, unlike in the last 15 years, decisive action has been taken against mafia and rioters in Uttar Pradesh. Religion, “It is our government’s aim that no one, irrespective of caste, be allowed to take the law into their hands,” says Rakesh Tripathi.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered that loudspeakers should not be played visibly in religious places of worship. Under the move, the UP government claimed to have removed 54,000 loudspeakers in a week.
Loudspeakers were removed from religious places of worship but there was little opposition.
The reason is that the Yogi government first removed the loudspeaker from the temple in Mathura before removing the loudspeaker from the Muslim mosques. It put moral pressure on Muslims to remove the loudspeaker installed on the mosque. Similarly, instead of the road, the Friday prayer should be held only inside the mosque. Sunita Aaron says Yogi handled the matter calmly.
U.B: Has crime reduced under Yogi’s rule?
Ahead of the elections earlier this year, Yogi Adityanath described one thing as an achievement of his government.
It added that “criminals left the state after 2017. Those who left were not civilians,” he said.
However, according to a report by the National Crime Records Bureau, the number of crimes in Uttar Pradesh has increased by 28 percent in 2020 as compared to 2019.
Apart from this, Uttar Pradesh itself has recorded the highest number of murder and kidnapping cases.
According to the 2020 figures, the government has claimed that crimes against women have decreased in the state.
A Times of India report said a total of 484 accused were sent to jail in four years as part of the Yogi government’s drive against the land mafia. Apart from this, action has been taken against 399 people who seized property by force under the Gangster Act.
Senior journalist Neeraja Chaudhary, who spoke to us about it all, said, “Whether it’s the Vikas Dube encounter or the bulldozer operation, the Yogi government has succeeded in conveying the message to the outside world that we have ‘controlled’ law and order. People are not likely to know much about how this government imposes decisions. But such decisions can also turn out to be dangerous.” ” he says.
