Two Saudi sisters who ran away from a family vacation five years ago to Sydney, via Hong Kong, were found dead in their home in Australia. The young sisters renounced Islam. There were no signs of a break-in, investigators have not determined the cause of death

Two young sisters fled Saudi Arabia with $5,000 during a family vacation, flew to Australia via Hong Kong and renounced Islam, five years later their bodies were found lifeless in a housing unit in Sydney, Australia, reports the Daily Mail.

Asra Abdullah Alsahli, 24 years old, and Amal Abdullah Alsahli, 23 years old, were found last June without a soul in separate rooms in the first floor apartment in Canterbury, in the southwest of the city of Sydney, Australia. No cause of death was determined and there were no obvious signs of injury, and no signs of a break-in to the building.

However, news outlets based in Yemen have shed further light on the mysterious situation – reporting that the women fled their homeland with a wad of cash in 2017 due to a turbulent relationship with their parents. The sisters were on summer vacation with their family when they boarded a plane to Sydney, via Hong Kong, after which they renounced the Islamic religion.

The Daily Mail reports that the Saudi Arabian consulate in Sydney expressed condolences to the family, which is believed to be well connected to the Saudi regime. The coroner did not release the sisters’ bodies to their family, according to the report they will be buried in Sydney. At a news conference Wednesday, Detective Superintendent Claudia Allcroft said police knew very little about the women and issued a public appeal, urging anyone who saw the sisters in their final days to come forward to the police station with information.

It seems that money was not lacking for them, they drove a BMW car that usually costs over $38,000, and lived in a two-room apartment costing about $500 a week. Police believe the women died in May – around the time they stopped paying rent.
