The Commonwealth Games are underway in Birmingham, England. This is the first time that women’s T20 cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games. The Indian team lost to Australia in the opening match. The Pakistan team also suffered a defeat against Barbadazu and were forced to win. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistan team was stumbling from the beginning in the bowling of the Indian team. The team lost successive wickets and were all out for 99 runs at the end of 18 overs.

On behalf of the Indian team, Sne Rana and Radha Yadav took 2 wickets each. After that, the Indian team entered the field with the simple goal of winning if they score 100 runs. Indian opener Smriti Mandana played a brilliant half-century. He scored 63 runs off 42 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes and stayed on the field till the end, guiding the Indian team to victory. Smriti Mandhana’s excellent batting helped the Indian team lose only 2 wickets in 12 overs and reach the target.

Following this win, Indian women moved to the top of the Commonwealth Games points table. With the win against Pakistan, Indian women’s captain Harmanpreet surpassed former captain Dhoni’s record of most wins for India in T20I cricket.
