Nichelle Nichols is dead. The 89-year-old actress played Lieutenant Uhura in Star Trek, the original series, from 1966 to 1969. The Sun tabloid refers to a post posted on Instagram by Kyle Johnson, the actress’s son. “I’m sorry to let you know that a great light in the firmament no longer shines as it has for so many years. Last night my mother Nichelle Nichols died of natural causes,” he reads.
