Palladam: Tirupur, Coimbatore District Power Weavers Association has decided to go on strike on 8th against the increase in electricity tariff.

Tirupur, Coimbatore District Powerloom Owners Association Executive Committee meeting was held yesterday at Palladam. Union President Velusamy said, “Due to various problems such as currency devaluation, GST, corona, wage hike, cotton and nil price hike, we are taking a heavy blow in the industry. For powerlooms, 750 units of free electricity is not going to help.

‘Government should accept the increased electricity tariff. Electricity tariff increase has been announced without holding a discussion meeting. Due to the increase in tariff, those who have more than 15 looms will have to pay an additional electricity bill of over Rs 250 per day. There is a danger that the power loom industry will be destroyed due to the increase in power charges,” he said.

The DMK government is taking away the free electricity provided by the DMK. With regard to the impact of the increase in electricity tariff, information minister Saminathan and ministers of handloom, electricity and housing in collaboration with the powerloom federation met with the chief minister to bring it to the attention of the chief minister.
