Two teenagers in Germany infected with monkey pox – Joop

by time news

Spiegel Online has discovered that two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, have been infected with the monkeypox virus in Germany. They’re both guys. There are now 2,677 infections reported in Germany. In most cases, it concerns men who have sex with men. Most reports come from Berlin. Among the patients are five women.

The virus spreads through physical contact but is not an STD. The virus could even survive on surfaces for some time. Experts warn that it may only be a matter of time before the disease spreads to other groups, writes Der Spiegel. In the US, New York state last week declared a state of emergency over the virus. California is now about that too. This weekend saw the first four deaths outside the African continent, including two in Spain.
