Despite the fragile aspectthe crafty blue-eyed Miss Marple, is an expert on criminology which alternates the investigative activity to the knit knitting. “Observer of human nature”, as she defines herself, Jane Marple, “a little old lady”, moves in the charming St. Mary Mead, small town apparently quiet and normal, actually a den of passions and hidden vendettas. One of the successes of the series («this very British television») is due to the fact that the hero (although the face has changed over the years) remains a fixed character and, with minimal variations, it repeats methodically the same events. The viewer knows that in the end Miss Marple will still have the better of the crime and she can thus indulge herself details of the newspaper. Fruttero said that Citati was a chronic apodictic. Let’s imagine the scene. Fruttero has just seen an episode of Miss Marple recommended to him bycritical friend: “She’s beautiful, you were right.” Cited: “But I’m always right.”
