Birmingham ∙ India won gold in women’s lawn balls and men’s table tennis at the Commonwealth Games. Vikas Thakur also won a silver in men’s weightlifting, taking India’s total medal tally to 12. The medal tally is five gold, four silver and three bronze.

Indian women won the gold by defeating South Africa 17-10 in the final by writing a new history in women’s lawnball. Lovely Chaube (lead), Pinky (second), Nayanmoni Sayka (third) and Rupa Rani Tirki (skip) won gold for India in the women’s lawn balls. It is the first time in history that India has won a medal in Commonwealth Games Lawn Balls. South Africa is the team that has won gold three times in lawn balls.

Harmanpreet Desai and Sathyan Gnanasekaran won the gold medal in table tennis men’s team. The Indian team won the gold after defeating Singapore 3-1 in the final.

In men’s weightlifting, Vikas Thakur won silver in the 96 kg category. It is Vikas’s third Commonwealth Games medal in a row. Vikas won silver in 2014 and bronze in 2018. Vikas Thakur secured the silver by lifting a total of 346 kg in both categories.
