The Federal Maritime Commission will collect information as part of implementing OSRA reform

by time news

US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) requests the public’s comments regarding its plan to collect information on imports and exports from shipping companies operating in the US, as required by the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022 (OSRA). After the request for public comment is published in the Federal Register, interested parties will have 60 days to share their views on the issue with the commission.

The law requires theFMC Collect and publish the total volume of imports and exports and the total of all loaded and empty units equivalent to 20 feet (not) for all ships visiting the USA, when all the information will be provided to it by the shipping companies. The Commission will report this information every quarter.

The Commission proposes to collect the required information every month from shipping companies transporting 1,500 not or more per month (full or empty containers) in US ports or outside them.

About 70 of the 154 registered shipping companies currently active in the US fit this profile and transport 1,500 not or more than that per month. The implementation of the program will allowFMC Collect data on more than 99% of imported and exported cargo in containers.
