ANALYSIS – The party’s primaries have confirmed the former president’s popularity with the base.

Trump retains his popularity with Republican voters. The victory of the candidates supported by the former president in the primaries of the party which took place Tuesday in Arizona and Michigan came to contradict the signs of an erosion of its electoral base.

In the primaries for Arizona senator, Michigan governor, secretary of state, and the House of Representatives, Trumpist candidates came out on top everywhere.

In recent months, however, signs seemed to point to a decline in Trump’s popularity within the Republican Party. The public hearings of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, damning for Trump, had been followed by a dropout of the former president with conservative voters in the polls.
