Actress Olivia Newton-John, star of the film Grease, died at 73, her husband announced Monday, August 8, in a statement posted on social networks. John Travolta quickly testified to his pain and his admiration in a message posted on Instagram. “My dear Olivia, you have made our lives all so much better. Your example was amazing. I love you so much. We will meet again along the road and we will be together again. Faithful, from the day I first saw you and forever. Your Danny, your John.”
“Every day is a blessing”
Suffering from stage 4 cancer, with very slim chances of survival, the actress had asked her doctor not to tell her how long she had left to live. “Every day is a blessing, especially at this time,” said the actress in 2019 in the Australian show 60 Minutes . “I think the mind plays a big role in the healing process, she added. When you are diagnosed with canceror a terrifying illness, you are suddenly given a deadline, she added. If you believe in numbers, you will make them come true. If someone says to you, ‘you have six months to live’, it’s quite possible that it is – because you believe it.”

Olivia Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. After undergoing a mastectomy, chemotherapy and mammoplasty, she suffered a relapse in 2013. Four years later, she announced that she had of a cancerous tumor in the sacrum. The actress then explained to treat her illness by using a mixture of conventional and alternative medicine, in particular consuming cannabis grown by her husband John Easterlin. His testimony had notably helped to lift the taboo on medicinal marijuana, a key component of his treatment which helped him find sleep, relieve his anxiety and soothe his pain.
A few months later, Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, the headliners of Grease, appeared together again, in the costumes of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson. For the first time since the musical’s release over forty years ago, they walked hand-in-hand through the streets of West Palm Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed a screening of the film followed by a meeting with fans. For the occasion, Olivia Newton-John brought out her yellow cardigan and the matching long pleated skirt. “It’s the first time we’ve worn our costumes since filming the movie! I am so happy!”exclaimed the actress on her Instagram account.
