Taipei: A new virus has been discovered in China. The zoonotic Langya virus was newly confirmed. Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said 35 people have been infected with the virus so far. The spread of the virus is being monitored. The Taipei Times reported that the Langya virus, which was discovered in China’s Shandong and Henan provinces, was transmitted from animals to humans.
Chuang Jen-hsiang, deputy director general of Taiwan’s CDC, said citing a study that no human-to-human transmission of the virus has been reported. At the same time, he also clarified that there is no certainty about the spread of the virus in this way. The government warned people to be careful about the virus, which can be transmitted from animals to humans.
In domestic animal tests, 2 percent of goats and 5 percent of dogs tested positive for the virus. China’s Shandong and Henan provinces have reported 35 cases of the virus. Of these, 26 had Langya virus only. No other diseases. It was also found that they are not in close contact with each other. Reports also indicate that the virus has not spread to those they came in contact with.
Symptoms:
Symptoms of this virus include fever, fatigue, cough, loss of appetite, muscle pain, nausea, headache and vomiting. The deficiency of white blood cells is also increasing among them. Low platelet count, liver failure, and kidney failure have also been reported in some patients.
