Twenty years of marriage ended legally today. We met at Government Local College, Thiruvananthapuram and decided to live together. The next twenty years were a flurry of life experiences as bitter and sweet as books could be written. To be honest, I have often forgotten or put aside my personal life in the journey with movies.
It was only from 2012 that cinema became a full-time partner in life, but its arrival was not smooth sailing and it required a kind of constant struggle to sustain it. My film career was about making movies with people’s participation, distribution and promotion through cinema vandi and fighting against neglect. It is difficult to explain how I came to have a family with two children in the meantime and how it has survived so far.
Many love affairs after marriage have also led to the breakdown of married life. But if you ask if you feel guilty about your life so far, the answer is ‘no’. I am convinced that life, like cinema, is driven by forces and our role in its dynamics is very small. The only thing we can do is to choose one of the two when life brings us to a point where it is enough to choose one of the two, such as ‘accept’ or ‘reject’. In all such choices I have relied on truth alone for decision.
Sometimes it has been dangerous, unacceptable to family and friends, or harsh enough to be seen as selfish by the public. The discomfort it has caused has not only affected relationships but also created credible enemies. I have no one to blame for such situations as it was all my own choices. There is no point in apologizing to anyone. Because it is based on truth, it believes that ultimately it will bring about peace and tranquility for all. May everyone be happy.
