Australian men’s cricketers have donated all prize money from their recently concluded tour to Sri Lanka to help children and families affected by the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

Test captain Pat Cummins and white ball captain Aaron Finch, who are UNICEF’s Australian ambassadors, are leading the donation. In total, 45,000 Australian dollars (Rs 25.36 lakh) will be donated.

The cricketers’ donation will go towards UNICEF’s programs to provide nutrition, health, safe drinking water, education and mental health services to the island nation’s 1.7 million children.

Cummins told cricket.com.au: “It is very clear to us how difficult the daily lives of Sri Lankans are. When we realized what was happening there, it was an easy decision for the team to donate the prize money to UNICEF, which has been working in Sri Lanka for over 50 years.

The June-July 2021 tour of Sri Lanka was Australia’s first to the island nation since 2016. Sri Lanka won the ODI series in all three formats by 3-2. Australia won the Twenty20 2-1. Both teams won each match in the Test series.
