Warning of tooth whitening pastes… do more harm than good!

by time news

Dental experts have warned of the harms of using some types of toothpaste, which are offered by producers as intended for teeth whitening.

And the Russian media quoted Dr. Anna Sharanda and dental surgeon Maxim Kopylov as saying that some types of toothpastes offered by the producers, as beneficial for teeth whitening, in fact do not have this effect, in addition to damaging the enamel of the teeth. The two experts give some recommendations on the correct use of these pastes.

According to Dr. Charanda, the pigment responsible for the color of the teeth is not located on the surface of the teeth, but rather within the crystal lattice of the teeth.

She adds, “The most that these toothpastes can offer is a slight whitening of the enamel, with the effect of active oxygen and the removal of limescale accumulated on the teeth. That is, it does not give a bright result.”

Dr. Kopylov agrees with her on this issue, but believes that this slight effect is caused by the aggressive composition of these pastes, which helps to remove deposits and pigments.

“People who overuse these toothpastes can experience increased tooth sensitivity, pain and enamel erosion,” he says. Therefore, it is recommended to use it from time to time.
