Is the fuel enough? Battery trucks have the edge

Despite the efficiency disadvantages, Daimler Truck and Volvo see great opportunities for hydrogen trucks. An important argument here: Unlike electricity, hydrogen can be stored. Daimler truck boss Martin Daum said at the annual general meeting that he assumed that commercial vehicles would also be powered by fuel cells in the future. “For the energy transition to succeed, Europe must be able to import, transport and store green energy. And the medium that makes this possible is hydrogen.” The Stuttgart-based company founded a joint venture with Volvo to develop fuel cells. Test vehicles should be on the road from the middle of the decade, and the market launch is planned for 2027.
