The incident of the husband slitting the throat of the wife who appeared in the family court case in the state of Karnataka has caused a shock.
The case of Sivakumar-Chaitra couple was pending in Holenarasipura family court in Hassan district of Karnataka state. The couple, who got married seven years ago, filed a petition in the Family Court for divorce due to differences of opinion.
Both Sivakumar and Chaitra participated in a counseling session as part of the investigation of the case. It is said that in the hour-long meeting, both of them willingly agreed to live together again after accepting the recommendations of various experts.
In this case, Sivakumar cut Chaitra’s throat when she came out of the consultation meeting in the court premises and was going to the washroom. Chaitra was rushed to the hospital where she was bleeding profusely and was given artificial respiration. Chaitra succumbed to a deep cut in her throat and bled to death.
Sivakumar tried to escape from the court premises after slitting his wife’s throat. But lawyers and civilians nearby caught Sivakumar and handed him over to the police. A case of murder has now been registered against Sivakumar. The police are investigating how Sivakumar managed to stash the weapon inside the court premises.
“The incident took place in the court premises. Sivakumar has been taken into police custody. We have seized the weapon he used to commit the murder. What happened after counselling? How did the weapon get into the courthouse? We will investigate. Was it a premeditated murder? It will come to light during the next phase of investigation,” said senior police officer Hariram Shankar.
