Storms: no more departments in orange vigilance, heavy rains fell on Languedoc

by time news

France will finally be able to breathe. The weather on Sunday was stormy over most of the country, accompanied by a drop in mercury and accumulations of rain in significant places, according to Météo France.

The alert for the last seven departments placed on orange vigilance for thunderstorms this Sunday (Ain, Rhône, Loire, Haute-Loire, Ardèche, Drôme and Isère) was lifted in the evening by Meteo France. Gard, Hérault and Bouches-du-Rhône had already emerged from vigilance at midday.

In the morning, showers accompanied by thunderclaps fell from Languedoc to Brittany.

The equivalent of a month of rain in one hour

As forecast by Météo France, strong thunderstorms passed in Hérault and Gard, accompanied by hail and gusts of wind around 80-100 km / h.

Around 10 a.m., the first lightning strikes sounded in Montpellier with the arrival of torrential rains. 7,000 lightning strikes were detected in the morning. 39 mm of water fell in the space of 1 hour, the equivalent of a month of rain in August.

The disturbances then shifted towards the Gard, before rising towards Normandy, the Paris region and Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Activity will remain locally strong, particularly in the centre-east. On Languedoc, Provence and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, after the first stormy salvo of the morning, we will observe a temporary lull before the passage of new stormy showers in the afternoon.

In Brittany and Pays de la Loire, the rains are quite long, sometimes mixed with thunderclaps, and must end up giving significant accumulations of water in the land. Less virulent showers will cross the Côte d’Azur.

High minimums

They will be less numerous near the Mediterranean and the weather will be calm on Corsica with variable skies.

The weather remained chaotic in the afternoon on the east facade with thunderclaps. Showers will sweep across the entire Northeast in the evening. They will be scattered from western Normandy to the Belgian border. On a southwestern quarter, clearings will develop, and thunderstorm activity will be concentrated near the reliefs.
