An Illinois frozen pizza brand is recalling more than 6 tons of the product due to possible metal contamination. Home Run Inn Frozen Foods, based in Woodbridge, a southwest Chicago suburb, issued the voluntary recall Sunday after a customer complained about finding metal in one of its products, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or adverse reactions from the recalled product: cartons containing “Chicago Premium Pizzeria Deluxe Classic Sausage,” the USDA reported. The pizzas, manufactured on June 6, 2022, with a best-by date of 12/03/22, bear the establishment number “EST. 18498-A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products are being pulled from shelves because they may be contaminated with “foreign materials,” especially metal, according to the FDA. The items were shipped to distributors in Illinois and beyond, the USDA reported. “Anyone who is concerned about an injury or illness should contact a doctor,” it said.

Finding metal in the product is rare but possible, this is due to the production line which apparently has an unrelated component mixed into it. Cases of metal remains in the product have already been seen in the past, but for the Chicago company this is the first time.
