Another great achievement for Israeli athletics. Luna Chemtai Salpeter won the bronze medal at the European Championships in the 10,000 meters this evening (Monday). The runner in blue and white stopped the clock at 30:27.37. Slamvit Bayolin-Tepary finished in fifth place.

After thrilling an entire country when she won bronze at the World Marathon Championships, Luna Chemtai Salpeter was hoping to record another achievement on the big stages of world athletics. Tonight she proved once again that she belongs to the highest levels when she not only won another international title, but also broke the Israeli record.

It was a nerve wracking run. In the first 7 kilometers Salpeter was in the top five, but then the Israeli’s breakthrough began. Saltpeter moved up to second place in the last 2,500 meters, but finally succumbed in the final sprint to Great Britain’s Eilish McCollgan, who took the silver medal.

Chemtai’s achievement joins the tremendous success of the athletics team from this morning who won the team gold medalwhen Maru Tefri got the money and Geshao Ayala Bard.
