Palakkad: The police have arrested all the accused in the murder of Malampuzha Kunnankot CPM local committee member Shah Jahan. Two people were arrested on Tuesday morning and six others were arrested in the afternoon. After the murder, the police got CCTV footage of three of them going to Chanakya Bar in Chandranagar and drinking. Then the police took statements from the bar staff.
The FIR states that the reason for the murder was political enmity. The FIR also states that Shah Jahan was severely cut on his leg and neck. Suresh, an eyewitness, had also said that Shahjahan was hacked by two people named Sabari and Anish. Suresh said that his son Sujeesh was also in the gang.
The police have registered an FIR of political murder based on the statement of party member Suresh and another person named Sukumaran. It was Suresh who brought Shahjahan who was cut to the hospital. Suresh’s statement is that first Sabari was cut and then Anish. There have been problems in this area since the last branch conference. Along with the slain Shah Jahan, there was another person who had previously served a prison sentence in a murder case.
There was an allegation that the party’s branch secretary and local committee member were making a person who was in jail in a murder case. Some had left the branch conference and some of them had joined the BJP. However, CPM Palakkad District Secretary EN Suresh Babu responded that the accused have nothing to do with the party.
The District Secretary said that the accused have RSS connections and participated in the mourning procession, including carrying the dead body of RSS leader Srinivasan, who was killed by Palakkad SDPI workers. The district secretary also says that the accused have been kept away from the party for years. Suresh Babu responded that the accused had come with the aim of killing Shah Jahan.
RSS BJP leaders say that the accused are not related to them and CPM sectarianism led to the murder. Shah Jahan is a member of CPM Maruta Road Local Committee. The incident took place at 9.30 pm on Sunday at a shop near Shah Jahan’s house in Kunnangad. Shah Jahan was trying to settle some of the disputes that existed in the region. It was during this time that the tragic murder took place.
