Melbourne: Scientists plan to bring back the Tasmanian tiger, one of the world’s most extinct animals, using gene editing technology. Scientists from Australia and America have embarked on this effort.

The Tasmanian tiger is native to Australia. They are also known as thylacine (wolf-like animal). They lived on earth till 1936. After that the species became extinct due to hunting and climatic conditions.

The world’s last Tasmanian tiger lived and died in a zoo in Tasmania in 1936. The last living Tasmanian tiger was named Benjamin.

In this situation, scientists from Australia and the United States are involved in trying to bring the Tasmanian tiger species back to Earth. Scientists have said that stem cell and gene editing technologies will be used for this.

Speaking about this, Professor Andrew Bask from the University of Melbourne said, “For this purpose, we are going to isolate the stem cell of an animal with the same genetic structure as the Tasmanian tiger. Then use gene editing technology. “We hope to see the Tasmanian tiger again in 10 years.”
